Ice skating rink at Leidseplein
Holland has not seen a truly cold winter for many years, and it is anybody’s guess when scenes of people ice skating on the canals can once again be observed in person.
But that isn’t stopping people from ice skating.
Amsterdam’s Leidseplein once again is home to a big ice skating rink.
Skating is free if you bring your own skates. Skates can also be rented on the spot at €4.–/2 hours.
The rink is open from 11 AM until 12 midnight.
When you are done skating you can enjoy traditional Dutch winter treats such as oliebollen (very much like a deep-fried donut), poffertjes (mini-pancakes), stroopwafels (caramel cookie waffles), bratwurst, hot chocolate, and so on.
During some winters the canals freeze over, creating one of the world’s most beautiful skating rinks.
