From 23 November until 3 December 2006 the International Dcumentary Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) will organise the 19th edition of this festival in various theatres around Leidseplein.
As usual, the festival will feature a selection of the most interesting and pressing documentaries of the past year – from gems of film art to topical reports from all over the world. Personal films full of intimate details, but also inflammatory pamphlets on social issues.
Visitors who would like to discuss what they have seen can enter into debates with the many film makers who will be present in person.
IDFA is the largest documentary film festival in the world, attracting 125,000 visitors.

Several prestigious awards will be presented during the festival, among which will be awards for the best long documentary, the best short documentary and the best debut.
You will be able to see the crème de la crème of Dutch documentaries made in the past year, but also films from developing countries, produced with financial support from the Jan Vrijman Fonds.
This year the festival will again include special programmes for youngsters and 55+ visitors. An ‘urban programme’ will be organised in cooperation with the Cosmic theatre and a music programme together with the pop temple Paradiso.
