Spencer Tunick: Amsterdam Nude
On Sunday, June 3, 2007, some streets and squares in Amsterdam will be full of nude people – hundreds, possibly thousands, of naked men and women.
While Amsterdam is a freewheeling almost-anything-goes city, even that is an unusual event.
The occassion? A Spencer Tunick photo shoot. [June 3, 2007 Update: 2.000 people showed up]
The dream of Spencer Tunick
Spencer Tunick captures nude figures through film and video. With public space as his decor. The creation of his installations can be compared to impressive film sets or performances, with Tunick as the director. In a mysterious morning ritual, hundreds to thousands of models voluntarily undress themselves, take several by Tunick indicated positions, and wait patiently until all is documented.
Melbourne, 2001Tunick’s ongoing art project is a symbol for freedom. His images are abstractions that challenge to look differently towards nudity and privacy. His photographs and videos are the witnesses of these public events. Tunick has made many impressive installations world wide, in cities like Barcelona, Buenos Aires, London, Melbourne, New York and Sao Paulo.
In the spring of 2007, Spencer Tunick will make several installations for DREAM AMSTERDAM. The official opening is on Sunday, June 3. In the early morning, Spencer Tunick will create his largest installations for the manifestation on locations, which are kept secret until the last moment.
On Saturday, June 23 at 5 PM, the large-scale art works will be unveiled. They can be viewed until the end of August.
