The Boeken family has been selling fabrics, trimmings and notions in the Nieuwe Hoogstraat, Amsterdam, since 1920.
Whether you’re looking for bra straps, buttons, zippers, or sequins, you’re bound to find it somewhere in the A. Boeken store. Mind you, inside you discover that the store consists of three side-by-side stores.
Would you like to own a feather boa? Buy some lace to hippiefy a skirt? Need to replace boning in that special corset? Head for the A. Boeken stores.
The Boeken collection of latex-rubber and imitation leather is rumored to be Europe’s largest. Same is true for its selection of imitation furs.
In short, you’ll find anything from glitter to glamour, and from extravagance to style.
Not surprisingly, the store caters to a diverse public. Fashion designers rub shoulders with Ms. Marple look-alikes, and both stylists and students roam the nooks and crannies for supplies.
Pay special attention to the old furniture and cabinets found throughout the store. Note, too, that the store is known for its interesting shop windows.
