DutchAmsterdam.nl — Hilton Worldwide is opening a Waldorf Astoria hotel in Amsterdam.
The luxury hotel will be created by combining six historic canal-side buildings at Herengracht 542-556, and will be nestled amongst other 17th and 18th century buildings there.

The 94-guestroom hotel will feature a top-class restaurant and bar, a 500 square metre health club and spa, as well as 400 square metres of state-of-the-art meeting and conference space including a courtyard garden.
Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam will be the luxury brand’s seventh hotel to open in Europe, joining such locations as Rome, Versailles, and London.
“Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam will be an exceptional addition to our luxury portfolio,” says Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president development, Europe & Africa, Hilton Worldwide. “We are particularly pleased to see growth in Amsterdam, which is one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations.”
Local news daily Het Parool points out that the prices of hotel rooms in the Netherlands are among the highest in Europe, with Amsterdam hotel rates at the top.
Walforf Astoria
The original Waldorf-Astoria, which dates from the late 19th century, in New York was the world’s first hotel to offer room service.
The name of the hotel, which in the minds of many is almost synonymous with opulent luxury, is derived from Walldorf in Germany and the prominent German-American Astor family that originated there.
