DutchAmsterdam.nl — This week’s editon of In From Holland — the weekly news video show produced by Radio Netherlands — is all about water and how the Dutch deal with it because this past week some parts of the Netherlands experienced serious flooding.
Among the topics in this edition:
Helicopter view
The most serious flooding was in the northern provinces of Groningen and Friesland. A Dutch TV crew took a helicopter to film the damage from the air, and the footage is striking. The island of Texel
Another place that was hit by the flooding was the island of Texel, off the northern coast of the Netherlands. But the people in Texel have been used to flooding for centuries, and high waters don’t easily impress them.Floating houses
Water management experts expect the Netherlands will be flooded more and more frequently, as more and more water flows through Dutch rivers. The large-scale construction of floating houses might just be the solution.Happy surfers
Last week’s storm caused a lot of misery, but not for everyone. Surfers – young and old alike – were quick to get their boards out and enjoy the waves on Dutch lakes.
