11th edition of the Amsterdam Roots Festival

The 11th annual Amsterdam Roots Festival will take place from 14 to 21 June 2008.

The festival is a veritable celebration of world music and culture and there are rhythms to be heard from every corner of the world. The motto here is cross-over; traditional music from various countries is translated into modern times.

Amsterdam Roots Festival

This year special attention will be given to theme World in Europe. Musical influences from other cultures increasingly take root in Europe, and this diversity will be given new impulse during the festival.

Some 60 concerts will take place in the Concertgebouw, Tropentheater, Melkweg and Paradiso including the free Roots Open Air in the Oosterpark.

There is also an additional side programme (films and a photography exhibition) as well as an Off-Roots programme. In 2007, the Amsterdam Roots Festival welcomed some 65,000 visitors, including 58,000 for Roots Open Air.
