Amsterdam — Rent prices for rooms in Amsterdam have gone up by an average of 14,5 percent compared to last year. Nationwide rates have gone up by an average of 5 percent.
That’s according to research done by Kamernet, Holland’s largest website listing rooms for rent.
Kamernet spokesperson Bas Geenen says the supply of rooms in Amsterdam increasingly lags behind demand. The same is true of rooms in outlying areas of the city.
Kamernet was founded in 1999 by students looking for a place to live. By now the website has helped some 350.000 students find rooms. At any given time the site lists about 7.000 rooms in cities throughout the Netherlands.
An alternative listing of rooms in Amsterdam is available at Craigslist.
