Amsterdam — The average rental rate for rooms has risen sharply across The Netherlands, with the highest hikes noted in Amsterdam.
The average rate for a student room in Amsterdam is €425 per month, compared to an average of €328 per month elsewhere in the country.
Supply is up by 9 percent, says Kamernet.nl — Holland’s largest website listing rooms for rent. The financial crisis appears to motivate more people to rent out rooms.
However, Kamernet says there still remains a high demand for student rooms.
Price hikes are due in part to higher gas, water and electricity rates.
Best time to rent a room in Amsterdam is between April and June. September is the worst most, as thousands of students are looking for rooms during that month.
According to Kamernet, more students nowadays rent a room that is not completely to their liking. They then use that room as a base from which to look for the perfect spot.
