Student Rooms, Where to live:

Student Housing in the Netherlands

Amsterdam Tourist Information • Posted: February 18, 2006  Share/Bookmark

Kamernet.nl is a Dutch-language room-finding service. However, even if you don’t speak any Dutch you’ll still be able to use the site. An English-language explanation is included:

Housing in the Netherlands

Over 16 million people live in The Netherlands, making it one of the most densely populated countries in the world. It can be difficult to find housing at good prices, especially in the big cities (Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam, The Hague).

What is Kamernet.nl?

Kamernet.nl is a service for people who wish to find affordable accomodation in the Netherlands. The rooms offered on this site are particularly well-suited for students, but most landlords don’t mind renting out to non-students. Typical accomodations advertised with us are rooms in a rooming house, small apartments and studios, often times in downtown locations near the universities or colleges.

Why Kamernet.nl?

Kamernet.nl is the largest site for rentals under € 1200 in the Netherlands. Since the launch of Kamernet.nl in April 2000, over 200.000 people have found housing through us and we still receive over 6000 new advertisements for rooms per month.

Neither Kamernet.nl nor the landlords advertising their rooms on Kamernet.nl require you to pay the one month commission (the so-called courtage) that most rental agencies charge. This means that we not only work faster but that we’re also hundreds of euros cheaper than the commercial housing agencies that you find in the cities! [...more...]

The remainder of the article includes lots of must-know facts about renting in the Netherlands (including your rights).

Kamernet.nl does not charge commission, but does charge fees: € 14,95 per 10 reactions € 19,90 per 20 reactions € 26,30 per 30 reactions that you send to landlords.

Payment can be made by credit card or via iDeal (a Dutch online banking payment system). Payment by credit card is the best option for those without a bank account with a bank in the Netherlands.

Note:
• Kamernet.nl is operated by a reputable organization.
