DutchAmsterdam.nl — Amsterdam police on Wednesday found tens of kilos of hard drugs during raids in which one man died and three others were injured when they jumped or fell from the balconies of their high-rise apartments in an effort to try and avoid arrest.
Among other things, Police confiscated cocaine, cutting agents (used to diluted drugs) and bolletjes (small capsules, or condoms filled with drugs and intended to be swallowed by so-called ‘mules’ in order to smuggle the drugs abroad).
The Public Prosecution says police also found tens of thousands of Euros in cash during the raids, which took place in the Bijlmermeer district of Amsterdam Zuidoost (South-East).
Four suspects tried to flee the raids by climbing via their balconies. One man died, and three others were injured.
A fourth suspect was also hospitalized after he became unwell and started vomitting bolletjes.
Police have not yet determined the nationalities of the suspects, but believes a number of them to be of Nigerian descend. Several West-African criminal gangs are active in Zuidoost, and are involved in drug trade and internet fraud.
Most of the suspects will appear before an examining judge this Friday. He will determine whether their detention will be extended.
Meanwhile the national police force has been tasked with an investigation into the events that led to the death and injuries.
