What to do in Amsterdam – November, 2009

Amsterdam Tourist Information • October 28, 2009

DutchAmsterdam.nl — Should you encounter inclement weather during the month of November, Amsterdam offers lots of indoor activities. Our favorites this month:

The Affordable Art Fair (Oct. 29 – Nov. 1)Original and contemporary art to fit all budgets.

Museumnight Amsterdam (Nov. 4) “On Saturday November 4th 2006 Amsterdam will celebrate Museum Night (n8) for the seventh year in a row. 40 museums and institutions will open their doors and organize special events from 7pm until 2am! The event focuses mainly on a Dutch audience; this is why this website is mostly in Dutch. However, during Museum Night there is plenty to see and do for non-Dutch speakers. The programme includes DJs, bands, dance performances, food & drinks and of course the permanent collections and temporary exhibitions of the museums themselves.”

Chocolate Festival Amsterdam (Nov. 7 – 22). Celebrating the fact that Amsterdam is the world’s largest cocoa harbor. Website in Dutch language only.

IDFA — International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (Nov. 19 – 29). The largest documentary film festival in the world.

PAN Amsterdam Antique Fair (Nov. 22 – 29). The most important national art and antiques fair and a must for every art lover.

• Sinterklaas parade (Nov. 15). The original St. Nicholas — which commercial companies the U.S. morphed into Santa Claus — arrives in Amsterdam, together with his horse and his helpers, on a steamship (ostensibly all the way from Spain). Some 350.000 children and their parents will line the parade route — come sunshine or rain.
