Tropenmuseum — Royal Tropical Institute, Amsterdam

This article is a stub. More resources may be added over time. — The majestic, historic building which houses the Royal Tropical Institute’s Tropenmuseum (Museum of the Tropics) provides space for eight permanent exhibitions and an ongoing series of temporary exhibitions.

Renowned for its extensive collection, the Tropenmuseum is one of Europe’s leading ethnographic museums. It provides lively, interactive displays of life in the tropics.

The permanent displays include a recreated walk through a Manilla street, as well as through African and Asian villages.

Somewhat ironically the building that houses the museum was originally built, in the 1920s, to celebrate the colonial activities of the Dutch.

There’s also a children’s museum to entertain kids aged 6 through 12. It’s all in Dutch, though, but the language barrier seldom seems to bother the kids.
