DutchAmsterdam.nl — The famous Amsterdam-based bicycle factory De Fietsfabriek is bankrupt.
Faced with an insurmountable debt the owners themselves requested the bankruptcy.
Insiders report that a ‘large number of creditors’ are owed money, with debts amounting to 1.2 million euro on a yearly turnover of three million euro.
The company — best known for its cargo tricycle — has sixty employees, for which dismissal is sought.
Owners Cihangir Yalçın and David Deutsch are hoping for a restart. According to a spokesman talks are taking place with ‘some candidates’ who could take over the inventory.
Frames for the Fietsfabriek‘s popular bicycles are produced in Ankara, Turkey and the bikes are customized in Amsterdam.
The company has nine franchisees in The Netherlands and a number of stores and sales outlets abroad.
