Amsterdam Youth Hostels: a good alternative
Amsterdam is an expensive city to stay in -- especially in today's economy. It is a hugely popular tourist destination, and because there are not enough hotel beds most hotels can ask premium rates.
However, youth hostels in Amsterdam
provide a good alternative
We can't exactly refer to them as a 'best kept secret' because plenty of travelers have already discovered that today's hostels are a far cry from the hippie hangouts of the seventies.
Gone are curfews, age limits, shared kitchen cleanup duties, and do-as-you-like dorms.
Instead, you'll find clean, service-oriented hostels that cater to a wide range of visitors; young and old, rich and poor, business persons and tourists alike -- all at affordable rates.
Many even offer private single or double rooms (while at the other end of the scale at least one hostel provides double beds -- yes, for 2 people -- in a dorm).
More often than not these hostels are found smack-dab in the middle of Amsterdam's most popular neighborhoods -- close to major attractions.
