Increasing shortage of student accommodation in Amsterdam

DutchAmsterdam.nl — The demand for student accommodation in Amsterdam continues to increase.

By 2016 the capital will need 1600 additional student rooms. So says RIGO Research en Advies in a study commissioned by institutes of higher education in Amsterdam.

It was already known that in the period between 2009 and 2014 new student rooms would be needed, and after that the demand would continue to increase.

The growing demand in student housing is mainly due to the fact that more people are following higher education in the city.

In 2015 Amsterdam expects to home to a total of 117.100 students — 17.750 more than in 2010.

RIGO also said that there is a demand for rooms for 2800 international exchanged students annually.
