Il Girasole, Italian coffee house in Amsterdam

If it weren’t for one our Italian guests, we would likely not have had the pleasure of getting to know Grand Café Il Girasole — an Italian-style coffee house located within the Jolly Carlton Hotel at Vijzelstraat 4.

Simply said, these folks know how to brew coffee. That’s no surprise, though, since Il Girasole (Sunflower) is run by Italians.

They offer a variety of tasty Mediterranean dishes and Italian specialties including, of course, their famous pizza, which is said to be the best in town.

While you enter through the Jolly Carlson hotel entrance in Vijzelstraat, the café is located at the corner of Vijzelstraat and Singel.

Thus Il Girasole has a nice view of one of the prettiest stalls at the Bloemenmarkt, the famous floating flower market.

Whenever we’re in the neighborhood and have some time for a coffee, this is where we go.
