DutchAmsterdam.nl — Whenever we visit family and friends in England, where one of the publishers of this Dutch Amsterdam was born, we bring a suitcase filled with stroopwafels, Dutch cheese, licorice, and other goodies from the Netherlands.
This store has closed
Note: The Absolutely British store has closed. Both the physical store and the webshop no longer exist.
The kind (and wonderful) lady who ran the store explains that competition from large online retailers was too fierce.
We keep this archived article online because many people still look for the store.
Alternative: Irish Shop
Fortunately there’s a good alternative: IrishShop.nl carries your favorite products from Ireland and the UK.
On the way back home, that suitcase carries a treasure trove of British food — anything from Cadbury’s Crunchie bars to Marmite, from Walkers Shortbread Fingers to clotted cream, and from Lyle’s Golden Syrup to huge quantities of PG Tips.
Turns out that’s not necessary. It’s all for sale right here in Amsterdam.
The store? Absolutely British: A Little Taste of Home.

It’s not that little, really. The shop, which was located at the Ceintuurbaan-side of Sarphatipark (and later moved elsewhere), carried the largest selection of British food products in Amsterdam.
“You can find all your favourites like Cadbury’s, Twinings, Clotted Cream, Chocolates, Shortbread, Wine Gums, All Sorts, Jams, Scones, and everything you need to make that special High Tea or Holiday Dinner,” the store’s website proclaimed.
Indeed you can order online for delivery anywhere in the Netherlands, but you owe it to yourself to actually visit the store in person. It is located not far from the Albert Cuyp market.
Proper British service — with a smile, no less — included at no extra charge.
As we mentioned above, Absolutely British no longer exists. Visit IrishShop.nl for a range of products from Ireland and the UK.
