DutchAmsterdam.nl — Police in Amsterdam have arrested a thirty-year-old suspect in the stabbing death of a 69-year-old man at a school yard two days ago.
The man was captured near the Amstelveenseweg Metro station in Amsterdam South.
At the time of his arrest the suspect was carrying a knife.
Police arrested the man based on the testimony of eyewitnesses.
Leo van Trappe was stabbed to death while working as a guard for children who stayed at their school grounds during the noon lunch break. He was employed by a temp agency for seniors, as a means of augmenting his income.
Three children witnessed the murder, which took place at a school yard shared by three schools.
Police say that while the stabbing appears to have been a random attack, they do not believe it is related to four such attacks — one deadly — in Lelystad.
