Amsterdam police: Love affair possible motive behind murder of Arzu Erbas

DutchAmsterdam.nl — Jealousy over a love affair is the possible motive behind the murder of childcare facility owner Arzu Erbas, Amsterdam police say.

The Turkish-Amsterdam woman arrested earlier this week is thought to have commissioned the murder because she believed her husband had a relationship with Erbas.

The murder suspect, Nevzat Koyak, is a distant cousing of the woman’s husband.

The arrested woman remains silent on the issue. Her lawyer, Michiel Balemans, says the suspicion is based on nothing but rumors.

Police received a tip claiming the woman encouraged the suspect. However, Balemans says, they also received a tip pointing to someone else.

The woman has been brought before an Examining Judge, and will remain in pre-arrest until at least October 20. — DutchAmsterdam.nl
