Cleaners at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport continue strike

Amsterdam Schiphol Airport Roughly 400 out of 700 cleaners at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport are on strike. They are demanding compensation for travel costs, regular work, more breaks, ‘more respect’ and an end to ‘intimidation by managers’ who criticize them for striking.

The cleaners, who work for six cleaning companies contracted by the airport, have been on strike since yesterday morning.

Later this afternoon they will decide whether the protest will continue tomorrow.

Taxi service TCA loses Schiphol concession, vows to fight decision

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol Starting June 1, 2009, taxi drivers affiliated with Amsterdam taxi service TCA will no longer be able to transport passengers from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. For the next five years, that right goes to the taxi services of three other cab companies as selected by the airport.

TCA drivers are livid, and TCA — which has provided Schiphol’s taxi services for the past 30 years — is going to court to fight the decision.
