Amsterdam sees fewer tourists from America and Japan

The on-going effects of the worldwide financial crisis are being felt in the Amsterdam tourism industry.
During the first two months of this year the number of Japanese visitors diminished by 42 percent compared to January and February 2008, while the number of Americans fell by 35 percent.
Amsterdam is now marketing itself to visitors closer to home, from countries such as Belgium, Germany and France — but also from the Netherlands itself.
