Amsterdam King’s Day 2022: All-Day Citywide Street Party?

On King’s Day Amsterdam puts on the world’s largest street party. But in 2020 the party moved indoors: the King’s Day Coronavirus Lockdown Edition.

King’s Day 2021 also fell victim to the coronavirus measures. As the Netherlands is battling a third wave, all large scale public events were cancelled until at least May 5.

Previously known as Queen’s Day, 2022 will mark the ninth edition of King’s Day in honor of King Willem-Alexander.

It’s actually a nationwide party, but Amsterdam definitely is the place to be — but just not this year.

Amsterdam Light Festival (and a much needed alternative)

The annual Amsterdam Light Festival is a winter event that combines light, art and — of course — water.

The organization promotes boat-, walking-, and bicycle tours along the 20 light art installations.

The 2020-2021 edition marked the festival’s 9th year . Due to the coronavirus measures it took place in a different format than usual

The festival still leaves us (among others) underwhelmed.

We suggest an excellent alternative.
