Suspect in the murder of Amsterdam daycare center owner arrested

Amsterdam, Aug. 27, 2009 — Amsterdam police have on Wednesday arrested Nevzat Koyak, a suspect in the murder of daycare center owner Arzu Cakmakci-Erbas.

The man was arrested at Erasmuspark after police received a tip from someone who spotted him there.

Last Monday Koyak’s photograph and identity were revealed during local and national TV broadcasts. Police offered a €5.000 reward for a tip that would lead to the man’s arrest.

During his arrest the 41-year-old Koyak told police they were looking for him, and that he had seen his own photograph on the internet.

Police say the man is addicted to drugs and alcohol. Reportedly he has been involved in prior violent crimes.

Erbas was attacked last August 11 while trying to enter her car at a parking lot outside the daycare center she owned and operated. She died later that day at a hospital.

According to police Koyak was not related to the victim. A motive for the attack is not yet known. — DutchAmsterdam.nl
